I’ve been to a lot of puppy boutique shops lately that sell puppy clothes and puppy supplies, but don’t really have a strong focus on any kind of puppy accessories in particular. There are chihuahua puppy boutique stores that sell chihuahua clothes and these other shops that bill themselves as puppy dog boutiques that carry costumes of many different kinds: some cheap, some that are quality, but I have yet to see a puppy store other than the Chihuahua Shop that really hones in on any particular type of puppy clothing.

When I set up the Chihuahua Shop puppy boutique, I knew I wanted it to focus on quality chihuahua clothes for puppies and toy breed dogs. I wanted a puppy boutique where you could come and find fabulous puppy clothing and puppy collars and puppy accessories, to dress up your puppy and make her look like the latest canine fashion diva dog. I wanted to create a store that I would want to come to, were I looking for a great chihuahua puppy boutique to shop.

And so that’s what I did: I found the best chihuahua clothing I could, that wasn’t exorbitantly priced, and brought it to the new puppies boutique that we now call the Chihuahua Shop puppy store. Today, this little puppy boutique carries the newest puppy collars and puppy accessories and clothing you’ll find anywhere, no matter what puppy shop or puppy boutique you walk into, in the real world, or that you shop at online.

The other chihuahua puppy boutiques I see online seem to have lost their focus: in the same puppy boutique, I have seen individual chihuahua clothes being marketed as perfect for dog agility training, for fashionable doggy cocktail parties (lol), and for keeping your dogs warm. There’s no focus.

I had a surreal experience this weekend: I got to see the Mecca of puppy accessories for chihuahuas and other little breed puppies. My chihuahua clothes fanatic friend took me for a weekend getaway, and her little chihuahua puppy tagged along in her chihuahua accessories (she wore a puppy collar charm and two hair bows from the Chihuahua Store!) My friend wouldn’t even tell me where we were headed, just that I had to see it and that there were going to be a lot of little dogs dressed up in puppy accessories like I would not believe.

And my god, was she ever right! Now, I live in a rather competitive chihuahua puppy clothes environment where owners are constantly trying to outdo each other with the chihuahua collars and the puppy accessories they dress up their little dogs with, but this little town my friend took me to on the other side of the bay… holy luxury dog clothes mole! First, we drove around to the one beach-side village that was the end of the line and you couldn’t drive any further, and so we had to grab our little dogs, wearing their cute dog collars and pet accessories for dogs as per my friends instructions that we had to look the part, and we hopped into a water taxi that took us about another 25 minutes around the rain forest bay to the town at the southern mouth of the bay. And stepping off the boat and onto the pier, I was amazed: I had left planet earth and entered the realm of chiwawa puppies and puppy accessories!

There were SO many little chihuahuas wearing small dog accessories I almost couldn’t count. Apparently, all the little dog-loving owners come out to this town on certain weekends to gather and hold this puppy boutique fiesta, complete with silent auctions on the latest puppy clothes and puppy accessories for their tiny chihuahuas and their yorkies and their other little doggies.

I asked some of them why they held their parties there, at this part of the bay, and they told me that because it is because the place is both so extremely beautiful and because it is remote they can be alone with their little dogs in their puppy fashion insanity without having to worry about feeling strange about having their little dogs wearing puppy accessories to the extent they had dressed up their little puppies with: to complete puppy diva-dom!

I had to agree: this tiny beach town was gorgeous: it starts on this wide stretch of beach and climbs up, into the mountain side and then descends back down the other, back down to the beach: it’s a picturesque little beach hideaway for these puppy fashion fanatics! And there were more chihuahua pups wearing puppy collars and designer puppy accessories that you could shake a stick at. Even the restaurants along the beach had these little puppy beds out in the sand, for the homeless beach puppy dogs to come in a rest when they wanted a respite from the hot sun. It was awesome.

Saying Goodbye to The Land of Puppy Accessories

I was a little sad, leaving this town of Yelapa, but all things come to an end, and I had to step back into the real world. There’s only so long when you’re surrounded by all of these little chihuahua puppy fashion divas before you start to get weirded out and feeling like they are the society and you are their pet! Like I said: this puppy world with all the puppy accessories was like something out of a bizarre fairy tale!

I picked up this beautiful puppy harness from one of the women there, selling puppy accessories, and I’m going to see if we can bring it in to the Chihuahua Shop because it’s gorgeous with these emerald green crystals that sparkle in the sun like I have never seen! Puppy collars are the most important piece of jewelry you can buy your dog: she will be wearing it for most of her life.

The good news is that these collars for puppies come in a variety of styles and, no matter what your taste, it’s fairly easy to find a collar for your little dog that you love.

After a lot of searching, checking, and shopping, I’ve found that different online dog stores have different strengths. Fast forward to today, when I’ve now owned chihuahuas for a number of years and have some experience taking care of these little cutie pies. I’ve always been one to pamper my pooches and I love buying chihuahua clothes for my dogs, but a little while ago, I got super fed up with the deceptive marketing of the different dog clothing stores out there that are selling clothes for chihuahuas, and I finally decided to do something about it.

I got tired of looking at the pictures in the online dog clothing boutiques, getting excited, buying the dog clothes I wanted, and then having them show up late, and the chihuahua clothes being entirely something other than what I expected them to be, and the shirts and sweaters and a lot of the advertised pet costumes being far lower quality than what was advertised. In short, I got tired of being disappointed with small dog vendors online. So I decided to start my own chihuahua store and focus in on just clothing for chihuahuas and similarly small breeds and create a store that sells the kind of small dog clothing that I would want to buy. And I wanted there to be a store selling these clothes that actually has good customer service, that gets back to you promptly when you have a question and that delivers their clothes to you–the customer–on time, every time, and puts you first. Is that too much to ask for these days?! I don’t think it is, and so that’s really why I started my online chihuahua clothes shop.

Now, is the chihuahua shop for everyone? No, it isn’t. Some people like different kinds of clothing for their dogs, like the ultra luxury (and insanely priced) clothing for their little dogs that cost up into the thousands of dollars range, and that’s really not the focus of my store. Personally, I’m into chihuahua outfits that fit well, that are made from high quality materials, and that actually look like the pictures on store’s site, and that don’t leave you broke and selling your clothes off your own back just so you can clothe your little chi (wouldn’t that be a sweet story, though )

At my chihuahua store, I try to not just include the standard variety of dog sweaters and shirts and coats that you’ll find in most chihuahua boutiques, but also some very high quality chihuahua accessories like gorgeous Swarovski crystal-studded dog necklaces and other similarly fine dog jewelry. It’s actually kind of insane how many quality small dog products and how much quality small dog apparel is at the Chihuahua Shop right now. I’m working tirelessly to find the best chihuahua accessories on the market right now, like the latest in dog fashionista dog carriers, for example. And I only say it’s insane because of how much stuff for long hair and apple head and deer head chihuahuas (and really: all the other small breeds that are super small like these guys) that I see in the store right now: I’m only interested in stocking super high quality stuff and if it isn’t good, I’m not putting it out there, the way that some chihuahua stores do. It’s wild how much quality effort has been put into make these little dogs cute and adorable and comfortable. These little chihuahuas have got it made–I’m telling you!
