Hey there, it’s Mikey again! I want to talk to you quickly here a bit about chiwawa clothes and why I believe it’s better to look for clothing made specifically for chiwawas, if you’re the proud owner of one, than it is to just go after the generic small dog clothes you’ll find at the majority of the online pet clothing stores. And yes, by the way, I realize that it’s actually spelled “chihuahua”, but so many people writing to me today are using the “w” version that I’m going to do it their way off and on in this little article as a sign of support for “chiwawa” owners around the world and the imperfection of our dog culture as it exists today, lol. Chihuahua clothes are cool, but chiwawa clothing… now we’re talking! So enough silliness: I believe it is far better to look for chiwawa outfits for your long haired chihuahua than it is to search for small dog clothing when you’re online, and it’s because of how they fit.

As I’m sure you probably can imagine, all dogs have a similar shape, but the different breeds each have their own unique body proportions that make them what they are: the dachshund has that crazy long wiener dog body; the greyhound has that super slim and trim build; and the labs have those prototypical dog bodies with everything in a relatively “normal”, average proportion. When it comes to chihuahuas and smaller dogs, it’s the same story: they each have their own body shapes, but when you get down to the smaller sizes of these guys, little difference make an overall larger proportion of difference, since the differences in size amounts to an overall larger percentage of the small dog’s size, compared to a bigger dog. So when you’re buying clothing for a little dog like a chihuahua or a yorkshire terrier or a (insert small breed of dog here), your little Fido is going to end up with clothing that is much better fitting for her if it is clothing designed specifically for her breed. Of course this is true for any breed, but again, when it comes to smaller dogs, this makes a bigger difference.

Especially when you’re looking at designer pet clothes for you chiwawa pup, you’re going to want to make sure those nicer, more pricey clothes you’re picking out for her are going to fit her properly and not end looking like a dog wearing a plastic bag or something really baggy that will look goofy like that. And it’s the same story with chihuahua coats: they’re made from thicker material and heavier construction, so if you’re little dog is going to wear them, you want them to fit properly, otherwise they can rub her again and again in the wrong place and lead to rashes and rub burns and other nasty unpleasantness for your precious little princess! Any kind of designer pet boutique will normally advertise their clothing is for a specific breed of dog–ours, for example, has clothing designed primarily with chihuahuas in mind. These companies put their designer labels on dog clothing with pride and obviously want you to think highly of their pet products, so they usually go the extra mile when designing their pet fashion to be a bit more tailored for specific breeds. If you’re looking for dog clothes online and you’re going for that luxury pet look for you chihuahua girl, then you’re almost certainly going to want to make sure the clothes are designed for chihuahuas and fit her well. And again, this isn’t just going to affect her look, it’s going to play a big role in how comfortable she is in the clothing.

Of course, the same is true when you’re shopping for chihuahua clothes cheap enough to buy in bulk: if you’re buying clothes that are inexpensive, a lot of little dog owners get so excited by the fact that they found a great deal on the chihuahua clothes that they forget to check to see if they fit properly! And these clothes are almost always made from harsher, less forgiving material than the more expensive dog clothing, and so you need to check to make sure the discount dog dresses fit your little female chiwawa properly so it’s not causing her that irritation to her sensitive underbelly and underarm area that I know my own chiwawas can develop problems with I’m not careful with choosing the right clothes for them!

If you’re trying to find raincoats for small dogs, the same hold true, especially when you’re dealing with chihuahua dog coats like these made from rubber materials! You need to be careful with dog coats for small dogs in general because of the increased discomfort you’re little chi will experience if she’s not the right size for these clothes, so really just make sure you’re looking through coats that have been designed specifically for your chihuahua (or whatever breed of little dog you have) when you’re shopping for them, if you have that option.

Chihuahua collars are the same story, though not to the same degree. Obviously with a chiuaua, you’re going to want to use smaller dog collars and leashes for her, but you have a little more leeway when it comes to the selection with these.

Some of the dog clothing boutiques (including our own) allow you to customize a cool collar for your small breed puppy. They’re these crystal-studded fashion dog collars you can do custom lettering on so your chihuahua can wear her name right on her little collar, and it’s very cool because it’s just another way you get to customize you’re adorable dog’s look. You can find embroidered dog collars for all the little breeds of dogs because there isn’t a whole lot of variation when it comes the shape or size of a little dog’s neck! So you don’t have be quite as vigilant and careful when browsing and looking for these.

With chihuahua costumes, it’s best if you can find custom made get-ups for your small dog, but really, the point of most costumes–especially if we’re talking about chihuahua Halloween costumes–is to make your dog look a little silly and share a funny moment with her and have a laugh and lavish the absurdity of the whole thing, so a little extra wiggle room inside the costume usually isn’t a bad thing. That said, it’s very possible to find dog costumes for small dogs in the pet stores online and in the mainstream local pet places in any bigger cities, so if you’re going for something more petite or something more adorable than funny, for example, and you enjoy living that fantasy with the little dogs in your life, then you can definitely find breed-specific costumes for chihuahuas and other small breeds if you just look around.

So that’s really all I want to say about finding custom fit chiwawa clothes. If you’re trying to find hoodies or sweaters for your chihuahua or t-shirts or little dog boots for your little dogs, both of you will likely enjoy the clothes more if they fit your dog really well, and the best way to do that is to shop for clothes at a store that sells them for the particular breed of dog that you have.
