I think that dog collars and leads have to be one of my favorite dog accessories. After the chihuahua clothes and the fancy dog bling, my chihuahuas wear their dog collars all the time, and I walk them using their matching dog leads every day! When you’re out walking your dog, you’re on display for the world, and so having fashionable dog leashes for showing off your gorgeous little chihuahua is a must as far as I’m concerned!

I’ve been paying attention to a lot of the dog leads and collars I see people using with their chihuahuas and their other little toy breeds, and it seems that after the majority of boring and bland dog leads and collars, it is chihuahuas with their designer dog collars and their fancy chihuahua leads that are ahead of the rest of the dog work in terms of style.

So many people are out, walking around these gorgeous dogs that are groomed and have these amazing coats of fur because they’re fed the premium brands of dog food, and the whole thing. Many of them even wear chihuahua clothes and other dog apparel for the larger breeds! But very, very few people have the bling collars for their dog like I see on chihuahuas with their stylish chihuahua collars. And I also don’t see many fashion dog leads that match with the collars, right now.

And it’s such a shame, I say! Here they are, these gorgeous dogs with these beautiful small dog clothes, but their owner hasn’t taking the time to find the right matching dog leads and collars to go with their outfits! Small dog collars and short dog leads for these chihuahuas and yorkies and maltese dogs that are perfect for getting your canine fashion bonanza on are everywhere today, especially in the online chihuahua boutiques. I think studded dog collars are pretty freaking cool, and that’s why I’ve been working so hard to bring a few of these dog collars with studs to the Shop this week. Spiked dog collars are in the same category, really, and I see them most often around the necks of the biker dogs and the doggies perched on the front handlebars of motorcycles all the time! These punk dog collars are a definite throwback to the 80’s and that bad-ass, metal scene, and with studded small dog collars, you get to take a walk on the wild side of dog collars.

Chihuahua collars usually lean more in the category of glam and luxury, studded with crystals and very often pink in color. But these studded dog collars are much more often black leather collars with the metal studs embedded into the collar band. It is possible to find cool dog collars with studs of another, more playful color, like a light blue or a soft pink, but the studded doggie collars usually have that more classic biker look of the black leather band with the chrome metal studs.

You can even find crystal studded puppy collars for your younger dogs, today. These are just your standard studded dog collars, only a bit smaller so that they fit around your puppy’s smaller neck. You can even find spiked collars for dogs that are really small, like chihuahuas, or that are puppies, as well!

But these studded collars for dogs inject that extra bit of attitude into your dog’s appearance and make her look like a bad ass chihuahua! Studded chihuahua collars are starting to appear more and more around where I live, on around the necks of little dogs; and it’s no secret why: little chihuahuas look super cute when they’re sporting a stylish dog collar that has studs or spikes on it!

It’s been a lot of fun watching people who’ve been buying the new cool dog collars from the Chihuahua Shop, trying out their new stylish dog collar on their little dog and walking around the little city plaza here where I live. The Chihuahua Shop carries a number of super cool dog collars, to go along with the small dog clothing we specialize in for chihuahuas and other little dogs, and it’s an online store, but the locals here get restless sometimes. They know me and they know that I run the Chihuahua Shop, and so sometimes my dog lover neighbors show up at my door with a burning need to buy a new collar for their dog right now.

I can’t always accommodate them because the dog clothes and the custom dog collars ship from elsewhere! But I usually have a few spares of most of our chihuahua clothes and the new and very cool dog collars that we just got in, and so it is sometimes possible for me to help out my small dog owning fanatic neighbors, who would probably kill to get their hands on the latest designer dog collar for their chihuahua!

An Obsession With Cool Dog Collars

Some of the people in this chihuahua town are flat-out obsessed with cool dog collars and they buy every kind of cool dog collar, along with the personalized puppy collars and the flashy pink dog collars, that they can get their hands on.

They tell me that small dog collars “are the gateway to chihuahua fashion stardom” for their little dogs. And while I ponder their words for a half-second before wondering if they’re insane, I tell them about the latest cool dog collars that are being released soon and that the Chihuahua Shop is getting in and I sit back and watch them salivate like a hungry dog getting a bone. Yes, some of my neighbors are fashion freak shows, God bless them!

I guess for some people, chihuahua collars, and really all collars for small dogs, are something truly special: they’re a dog accessory you get to express your inner fashionista (and your dog’s inner fashionista) through a bling-tacular, flashy, glamorous piece of jewelry that is subtle, but sublime. You can tell I’m channelling my fashion-minded neighbors right now!

I’ve been getting excited, watching the new dog accessories come in to the Chihuahua Clothes Store lately! I always get a little bit of a high whenever we get new chihuahua product, and it was no exception this week with the new dog apparel. I’ve been watching some of my favorite other stores online like GW Little bring in new dog beds and dog backpacks and dog toys this week, but I’ve been focusing on dog clothes for chihuahuas and other small dogs, and I’m really liking what I see at the Chihuahua Shop with the stylish dog clothing on the shelves right now.

Chihuahua clothes have been a passion of mine since I last moved to a new country, met someone, and became the joint owner of two chihuahuas. The clothes are fun, they’re cute, they help my dogs out by keeping them warm. But it’s fun when you get to take your dog’s appearance to the next level with dog accessories like jewelry and collar charms. It can really be a lot of fun!

And then, when you top off the whole small dog experience with custom luxury dog bowls for the house and doggy leashes and dog harnesses for when you walk your little chihuahua each day, it immerses you and your little dog even more in the world of chihuahua fashion, and it can be a blast. I love going into that world of the luxury pet owner (even without spending a fortune on doggy accessories–just with a few choice items I like) and sharing that whole fantasy experience with my dogs. It’s a very enjoyable thing for me, if I’m honest

I like walking through the house, looking through the glass door and seeing my chihuahuas’ little dog houses, and I like carrying them in their little dog carriers when I can’t take them with me on a leash when I’m moving through buildings, downtown during the day. Sometimes it’s one of those days when I am going to take my chihuahuas in their chihuahua clothes and wearing their dog accessories with me, everywhere I go, and I need these things. Sometimes it’s just one of those days.

I’ve been looking at these trendy dog collars at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop lately, and I have to admit: I’m impressed. Normally, I’m not really big on flashy, frilly-laced jewelry for my dog. In fact, up until just a few years ago, I thought the whole notion of chihuahua clothing was a complete joke. I thought it was ridiculous, dressing dogs in little outfits made by us. Well I got two small dogs of my own–two chihuahuas–and that all changed in a hurry! It wasn’t even two weeks before my little doggies were running around in their K-9 haute couture chihuahua fashion outfits and their other adorable dog clothes for chihuahuas. A few weeks later, I had to splurge on personalized dog collars for them and complete the look for them, for all-out chihuahua effect. It was a little overboard for me, but the chihuahuas certainly looked the part!

Fashionable dog collars have always been a favorite dog accessory of mine. They way I see it, your dog’s collar is her most important piece of fashion. She wears it all the time, it holds her license and ID tags, and it’s like her jewelry. I’ve notice my little dogs get quite attached to their chihuahua collars: when I remove them, they lean forward and sniff it and look up at me and then at the collar, expectantly, just wanting and waiting for me to put it back on around their neck.

So I’ve been working on finding the best rhinestone collars in the online dog boutiques lately. I’ve seen some great lather strap dog collars that do the customizable crystal print letters like we do here at the Chihuahua Shop, but for the most part, I like what we have a lot more than the other styles I’m seeing out in most other stores.

I’ve always been a fan of those polka dot collars you can find at the local pet stores, that you can find in the section with all the nylon dog collars. I usually go with nylon for my foster dogs, simply because it’s a bit cheaper (and when you foster as many rescues as I do, that becomes an issue, let me tell you!) But when you got to step it up a little and you want to move into more of the designer dog collars for your chihuahua, then you’re almost always going to be dealing with trendy dog collars that have leather straps.

The leather dog collars tend to last longer than the nylon ones, and this isn’t probably going to be your biggest concern when you’re a chihuahua owner because even when they roughhouse, they’re not exactly bringing down the house with the amount of damage they can do to the house or to their chihuahua clothing, but if you’ve got a pug or a dachshund or a bit bigger dog than a chihuahua, you’ll appreciate the leather straps on their collars.

In addition to the collars, you can find designer dog leads and chihuahua harnesses that match in style and are usually sold together, which is perfect if you’re the fashion-tastic type who loves having things coordinated with your chihuahua accessories and dog apparel!

But to wrap this up, I have to say that right now, I’m most excited about the new Wizard of Oz Swarovski dog collars (pictured at the top of this article) that the Chihuahua Clothes Store just brought in! Hi guys! It’s me again! It’s Namaste the chihuahua! I’ve got another guerilla article here with some quick gonzo writing quick on the fly, as Mikey just left to go to the corner store to pick up some popcorn or something for the movie tonight–I don’t know what–but I’ve got to write this really fast. There’s something I just can’t contain and I have to tell you this: I want to talk to you about chihuahua collars because on the store, he added all these really neat customizable collars and we’re super excited about how cool they are!

So recently, this chihuahua collar section of the site was added where you can actually customize your own collar for your little dog. It’s so cool! Me and the rest of the chihuahuas here just got a couple of them in the mail, each with our own little names on them in these sparkly crystal Diamante letters, and they are so PIMP! I love them, and we’re so freaking excited that he thought of us to actually give us a collar with our own name on it in crystals! It’s so cool, so sparkly; we’re truly princesses now! Seriously, I feel like royalty, we’re so special!

Now we’re wearing our collars with pride and they’re so very very cool. Now we’ve seen things similar to this before that you can find at little dog accessory stores like G.W. Little and all these other places online, and they are cool too. But at the Chihuahua Shop, you can actually see what your custom collar will look like right there, live, in real time, and you can choose from different colors for the band. The band is made out of leather, by the way, and it’s really neat and well made.

As a chihuahua, our collar is pretty much the one bling item that we have, asside from our clothing, but we wear it full time and it never really comes off. Our collar has our license tags on it, and it’s probably the most important accessory that a dog has. It’s super important, so spending a little bit of time and energy when picking out the right collar for a dog, well, let’s just say we really appreciate it! We really like this stuff!

So if you’ve got a little dog, you can defnitely treat him on his birthday to a customized dog collar with his name on it. He’ll look so awesome and he’s going to be so cute! But we warn you: do not ever give one of these collars to your dog if you’re more of a quiet person who likes to keep to yourself and not be popular and attract a lot of attention and have a lot of people talk to you, because these chihuahua collars have been drawing people to us on our walks all week long, since we first got them! People just won’t leave us alone! They want to come over and pet us and talk about our flashy new bling collars and how cool they look. I feel really proud, but we realize there are some people who don’t really like talking too much and prefer to keep to themselves, so for those people, we really wouldn’t recommend it.–OK! Hey again, it’s Mikey, and I want to chat quickly here about some of the super cool chihuahua accessories I’ve seen showing up at the chihuahua clothes store recently! Normally when you think of dog accessories, you think of toys and leads and balls your little dog can play with and things of that nature–at least I do anyway… But little did I know how incredibly small my imagination has been: I’ve been sneaking into the storage room and having a peek at some of the new additions we’ve been making to the chihuahua store, and I am BLOWN AWAY at the level of decadence pet owners are taking the whole notion of chihuahua clothes to, today!

The first thing that hits me with all the different accessories for chihuahuas my eyes have seen tonight is the chihuahua jewelery: not only do we stock custom chihuahua collars that you can brand with your own small dog’s name in stones and do in your favorite color, there’s also things like the collar charms (pictured above) that you attach to your chihuahua’s collar to amp up the bling factor. I couldn’t believe it!–they’re so damn cool!

And there’s also these little chihuahua necklaces specifically made for small dogs, that have all of these embedded Swarovski crystals and looks nicer than most human jewelery I’ve seen! This is truly for the dog who loves drawing attention and walking in the K9 spotlight–without a freaking doubt! There’s also these adorable hair pins for little dogs that have longer hair, like a long haired chihuahua or a maltese, which are also super bling-tacular!

Of course, I’m seeing some great updates being made to the standard leads and leashes designs, with some beautiful new models of those basic accessories for chihuahuas, and a also some great little harnesses for chiwawa owners who don’t like walking their little dog with a leash around their neck (personally, I don’t have a problem with it, but I know a lot of people do not like the idea of it, and so I’m trying to bring in some more little dog harnesses for chihuahuas and these other toy breeds with more delicate, petite builds!

Of course, for the top and bottom (not that bottom!) of your precious and surely soon-to-be-famous chihuahua, we have little doggy hats and chihuahua pet socks, which you can check out on the left there! The hats make a perfect addition to any cutie pie dog outfits you have for your chi, that you want to complete and really take the look over the edge of cuteness, haha. And the little pet socks are adorable and great so freaking cute on little dogs! I’ve been making my little chihuahua–Namaste–wear them on the beach down here in the summer to keep her poor little paws protected from the burning hot sand on her afternoon walk, and she definitely seems to enjoy her beach walks more now and actually enjoys the scenery a bit instead of lifting her little feet up and down again like the little Mexican jumping bean she can be!

And lastly, I’m really liking what I’m seeing right now in the way of the chihuahua pet carriers we’re stocking right now. This one here is such a gorgeous bag: the London classic candy striped carrier for little dogs–it’s just so damn chic! Hey there, it’s Mikey again! I want to talk to you quickly here a bit about chiwawa clothes and why I believe it’s better to look for clothing made specifically for chiwawas, if you’re the proud owner of one, than it is to just go after the generic small dog clothes you’ll find at the majority of the online pet clothing stores. And yes, by the way, I realize that it’s actually spelled “chihuahua”, but so many people writing to me today are using the “w” version that I’m going to do it their way off and on in this little article as a sign of support for “chiwawa” owners around the world and the imperfection of our dog culture as it exists today, lol. Chihuahua clothes are cool, but chiwawa clothing… now we’re talking! So enough silliness: I believe it is far better to look for chiwawa outfits for your long haired chihuahua than it is to search for small dog clothing when you’re online, and it’s because of how they fit.

As I’m sure you probably can imagine, all dogs have a similar shape, but the different breeds each have their own unique body proportions that make them what they are: the dachshund has that crazy long wiener dog body; the greyhound has that super slim and trim build; and the labs have those prototypical dog bodies with everything in a relatively “normal”, average proportion. When it comes to chihuahuas and smaller dogs, it’s the same story: they each have their own body shapes, but when you get down to the smaller sizes of these guys, little difference make an overall larger proportion of difference, since the differences in size amounts to an overall larger percentage of the small dog’s size, compared to a bigger dog. So when you’re buying clothing for a little dog like a chihuahua or a yorkshire terrier or a (insert small breed of dog here), your little Fido is going to end up with clothing that is much better fitting for her if it is clothing designed specifically for her breed. Of course this is true for any breed, but again, when it comes to smaller dogs, this makes a bigger difference.

Especially when you’re looking at designer pet clothes for you chiwawa pup, you’re going to want to make sure those nicer, more pricey clothes you’re picking out for her are going to fit her properly and not end looking like a dog wearing a plastic bag or something really baggy that will look goofy like that. And it’s the same story with chihuahua coats: they’re made from thicker material and heavier construction, so if you’re little dog is going to wear them, you want them to fit properly, otherwise they can rub her again and again in the wrong place and lead to rashes and rub burns and other nasty unpleasantness for your precious little princess! Any kind of designer pet boutique will normally advertise their clothing is for a specific breed of dog–ours, for example, has clothing designed primarily with chihuahuas in mind. These companies put their designer labels on dog clothing with pride and obviously want you to think highly of their pet products, so they usually go the extra mile when designing their pet fashion to be a bit more tailored for specific breeds. If you’re looking for dog clothes online and you’re going for that luxury pet look for you chihuahua girl, then you’re almost certainly going to want to make sure the clothes are designed for chihuahuas and fit her well. And again, this isn’t just going to affect her look, it’s going to play a big role in how comfortable she is in the clothing.

Of course, the same is true when you’re shopping for chihuahua clothes cheap enough to buy in bulk: if you’re buying clothes that are inexpensive, a lot of little dog owners get so excited by the fact that they found a great deal on the chihuahua clothes that they forget to check to see if they fit properly! And these clothes are almost always made from harsher, less forgiving material than the more expensive dog clothing, and so you need to check to make sure the discount dog dresses fit your little female chiwawa properly so it’s not causing her that irritation to her sensitive underbelly and underarm area that I know my own chiwawas can develop problems with I’m not careful with choosing the right clothes for them!

If you’re trying to find raincoats for small dogs, the same hold true, especially when you’re dealing with chihuahua dog coats like these made from rubber materials! You need to be careful with dog coats for small dogs in general because of the increased discomfort you’re little chi will experience if she’s not the right size for these clothes, so really just make sure you’re looking through coats that have been designed specifically for your chihuahua (or whatever breed of little dog you have) when you’re shopping for them, if you have that option.

Chihuahua collars are the same story, though not to the same degree. Obviously with a chiuaua, you’re going to want to use smaller dog collars and leashes for her, but you have a little more leeway when it comes to the selection with these.

Some of the dog clothing boutiques (including our own) allow you to customize a cool collar for your small breed puppy. They’re these crystal-studded fashion dog collars you can do custom lettering on so your chihuahua can wear her name right on her little collar, and it’s very cool because it’s just another way you get to customize you’re adorable dog’s look. You can find embroidered dog collars for all the little breeds of dogs because there isn’t a whole lot of variation when it comes the shape or size of a little dog’s neck! So you don’t have be quite as vigilant and careful when browsing and looking for these.

With chihuahua costumes, it’s best if you can find custom made get-ups for your small dog, but really, the point of most costumes–especially if we’re talking about chihuahua Halloween costumes–is to make your dog look a little silly and share a funny moment with her and have a laugh and lavish the absurdity of the whole thing, so a little extra wiggle room inside the costume usually isn’t a bad thing. That said, it’s very possible to find dog costumes for small dogs in the pet stores online and in the mainstream local pet places in any bigger cities, so if you’re going for something more petite or something more adorable than funny, for example, and you enjoy living that fantasy with the little dogs in your life, then you can definitely find breed-specific costumes for chihuahuas and other small breeds if you just look around.

So that’s really all I want to say about finding custom fit chiwawa clothes. If you’re trying to find hoodies or sweaters for your chihuahua or t-shirts or little dog boots for your little dogs, both of you will likely enjoy the clothes more if they fit your dog really well, and the best way to do that is to shop for clothes at a store that sells them for the particular breed of dog that you have. Here at our chihuahua clothes shop, I’ve focused my energy on stocking the shelves with the highest quality clothes for chihuahuas I’ve been able to find: clothes that are made from high quality materials in cool, fashionable designs that I know would garner adoration and more than just a few swoons from my the people I cross paths with on my walks with my little poochies.
