Namaste the Chihuahua Shop model, wishing you a very happy 2012!

My two chihuahuas are looking rather spiffy in their winter chihuahua coats. Namaste, my model chihuahua, is not exactly fond of the snow, but she’s getting used to it again. Slowly.

Exciting News: I’m completely renovating the main page of this little blog so that when you first visit, you’re going to see a concise catalogue summary of my very favorite chihuahua clothing from all of my favorite online dog clothing boutiques. I’ve been searching around for months, collecting my top picks and the very best of the best clothes for these little dogs, and I think you’re going to love what I have in store for you. I’m working hard to make things easier for those of you looking for the coolest, most stylish and fashionable chihuahua clothes, and I think you’re going to LOVE the new home page of our site, here, once I’ve got it up and running in just another day or so. So be sure to stay tuned!

In other news: I’ve added the Facebook commenting system to the site, so feel free to add your two cents to any posts on the site as your real self. I think the Facebook system ads a personal touch that is much more meaningful than the standard, anonymous commenting system, so I really encourage you to use it over the standard blog commenting thing (which I’ve still left up for you to use if you want), if you have a Facebook account.

This year, I’m going to be adding a lot more content and putting more emphasis on video and audio reviews of new small dog clothing and outfits for chihuahua dogs, so things will be getting a bit more interesting on here. I know that I like to write a lot and that some of these posts can get a little long-winded, so I’m going to be making the switch to video and audio more often to make things a bit more entertaining for you! Hopefully it will break up the monotony of the solely text-based posts I’ve been putting out on this site for the past year

Anyway, enough jibber jabber. My chihuahuas are getting restless over here, wanting their walk, and it’s time for me to dress them up in their January 2012 winter chihuahua clothes and take them on their morning walk! Dog clothes are everywhere today, and whether you’re into chihuahua dog clothes or you’re more a cute dog clothes shopper, it’s these stylish dog clothes that dog owners are flocking to today. My neighbors, and all the pet owners of the little beach town I live in today is going gaga when they shop dog clothes online, and I’m lucky enough to get to see all this chihuahua clothing and these funky dog clothes on their little pets all the time!

Dog clothing does have its detractors, though, and while I think chihuahua clothing is totally fabu and that dressing up your dog in the most fashion-tastic designer dog clothes can be a lot of fun and a very good thing, not everyone feels the same. There are people who completely scoff at the very notion of dog fashion, and believe it to be cruel to dress a dog in an extra layer of fur.

Dog Clothes – Is There A Downside?

I think we have to respect their doggie clothes opinion, because not all of use have seen dog dresses and dog coats used in the same way. I know I have personally seen small dogs wearing heavy, thick dog clothes in the middle of the searing summer, when they’re out in the summer sun and the heat is bearing down on their and their small dog clothes, and that’s not at all cool in my books.

I think this goes without saying, but in terms of dog outfits, you have to use common sense with these little dog clothes, and dog clothing for all breeds of pet dogs. If you’re going to shop for new dog clothing at the Chihuahua Shop, or wherever it is that you buy your toy dog clothes, then please please PLEASE make sure you clothe your dogs responsibly and that you’re not going to make them wear dog clothes out in the sun and cause them to suffer in the heat!

Dog Clothes: Where To Shop For Them

But if you’re like the VAST majority of dog owners who dresses up her dogs in dog fashion, and you have some basic sense about this then you probably know what I mean when I say that dog clothes are just about the coolest thing ever when it comes to shopping for your dog. Small dog clothing lets you dress up your dog and give him or her the look of your choosing, and you can have so much dog fashion fun with that. Do I say have fun with dog clothes and enjoy the entire dog clothing experience!

I’ve been to a lot of puppy boutique shops lately that sell puppy clothes and puppy supplies, but don’t really have a strong focus on any kind of puppy accessories in particular. There are chihuahua puppy boutique stores that sell chihuahua clothes and these other shops that bill themselves as puppy dog boutiques that carry costumes of many different kinds: some cheap, some that are quality, but I have yet to see a puppy store other than the Chihuahua Shop that really hones in on any particular type of puppy clothing.

When I set up the Chihuahua Shop puppy boutique, I knew I wanted it to focus on quality chihuahua clothes for puppies and toy breed dogs. I wanted a puppy boutique where you could come and find fabulous puppy clothing and puppy collars and puppy accessories, to dress up your puppy and make her look like the latest canine fashion diva dog. I wanted to create a store that I would want to come to, were I looking for a great chihuahua puppy boutique to shop.

And so that’s what I did: I found the best chihuahua clothing I could, that wasn’t exorbitantly priced, and brought it to the new puppies boutique that we now call the Chihuahua Shop puppy store. Today, this little puppy boutique carries the newest puppy collars and puppy accessories and clothing you’ll find anywhere, no matter what puppy shop or puppy boutique you walk into, in the real world, or that you shop at online.

The other chihuahua puppy boutiques I see online seem to have lost their focus: in the same puppy boutique, I have seen individual chihuahua clothes being marketed as perfect for dog agility training, for fashionable doggy cocktail parties (lol), and for keeping your dogs warm. There’s no focus.

How The Top Puppy Boutique Shops Are Different

The best puppy boutiques only stock high quality puppy accessories and puppy outfits, and these best outfits only serve one purpose, typically. Some of the puppy boutique clothes will be designed specifically for keeping your little Fido warm, and other chihuahua boutique clothing will be created for the purpose of adorning your dog in a fashion fit for a fairy tale princess or the latest fashionista super diva dog, who’s ready to strut her paws on the runway and walk like an Egyptian!

Puppy Boutique Clothes: Where Do You Find Them?

You can find these two different types of puppy clothes at the Chihuahua Shop. What you won’t find at this puppy boutique are clothes that have an identity crisis, that promise to help your dog train better for agility or in obedience classes while also making her look gorgeous and fabulous and adorable at the same time. Ever since I first adopted my chihuahuas a few years back, I’ve had a soft spot for toy dog clothing and the chihuahua clothes I love to dress up my little doggies with. For me, small dog clothing is my favorite way of really externalizing my chihuahua’s personality for others to see and “get” immediately, and to just have my own fun with dressing her up and living in a bit of a chihuahua fantasy land! But recently, I ran into a situation at puppy training class with a new chihuahua rescue I’m fostering right now where toy dog clothes were actually getting in the way!

So this chihuahua rescue I took in a few weeks ago, he has a lot of potential to be a chihuahua superstar: he’s very attentive, he’s super obedient, and he loves wearing his toy dog outfits. So I enlisted him in puppy training classes and have been taking him three times per week to his classes with him dressed up in his chihuahua clothing.

The problem is not with my chihuahua pup or any of the other dogs: they’re all super friendly and they get along famously. This bizarre problem has to do with the other dog owners and my little chihuahua doggie’s toy dog fashion that I dress him in: his toy dog clothing is drawing too much attention from the other owners in the class and they’re actually getting distracted from the exercises we’re supposed to be doing and it’s interfering with the entire class. It’s insanity!

I go to these dog training classes with my chihuahua dressed up in his toy doggie clothing, and I almost feel like I’m trapped in a zombie movie or something with all of these people coming after me and my dog who simply can’t control themselves and keep from coming after us to touch him and talk to me! It’s insanity! Combining this little chihuahua with his tiny chihuahua dog clothes is proving to be too much for these other owners to handle! They see my little Winston in his cool toy dog apparel and it’s like gravity pulling them away from their training exercises with their own dog: they have to come over and talk to me and comment on how cute my chihuahua is in his toy dog clothing and how he reminds them of this other dog they once had, and this and that… it’s madness, I say.

I like to use chihuahua dog clothing to help dogs and people, not interfere with them, so for the last two classes, I’ve actually left my little chihuahua pup’s toy dog costumes and small dog coats off, in the car, just so that he isn’t quite as much of a draw. It’s been helping, as the other owners are doing a better job of concentrating on their work, but now my little Winston isn’t getting his training while wearing his small dog coats and his little dog clothing, which isn’t ideal because I want that association to be there. Perhaps I’ll have to dress him back up in his toy dog clothing after a few more sessions and see if the other owners can behave themselves.

I’m almost hesitant to do this because I know that whenever you dress up a chihuahua in clothing for toy dogs, it’s like giving the world an invitation to come over and touch your dog and squeal with delight and remark over how cute your doggie is! And then I have to almost get into that “alright bitch, back the f!*# away from my dog!”-mode just to stop all the commotion and continue with what I was wanting to do. I don’t like having to go there, but sometimes duty calls, you know?

Haha! As someone who loves chihuahua dog clothes, I get fairly excited over almost any opportunity to dress my chihuahua dog, Namaste, up in her chihuahua dog clothes, and so when my neighbor calls me up and asks if Namaste can come over for a chihuahua play date with her doggies, I freaking jump at the chance! I grab a few of her dog clothes for chihuahua outfits, my laptop, and we’re off out the door to the neighbor’s house so our chihuahuas can play together while we visit and do some work in the same space.

A few years ago, if someone told me I’d be taking my chihuahua to go to a chihuahua dog clothing play date, I would have told them they were on crack. Nothing could have been further from my mind. But after inadvertently adopting a few chihuahuas and spending some time with them, I’ve become big softy for these little dogs and their small dog clothes, and the entire chihuahua dog fashion scene!

So anyway, this past time I took Namaste over to her chihuahua dog friend’s house to play, I dressed her up in her favorite toy dog clothes, and off she went to play while I had coffee with the other chihuahua’s owner: my friend. We got to talking about chihuahua dog clothes while our chihuahuas were there, in front of us, wearing their chihuahua clothing, and I started to wonder if we would go blind or something from doing this Luckily for us, the answer was no, and it’s a good thing because once two chihuahua dog fashion fanatics get into a conversation about small dog clothes, it takes an eternity or, in this case, the threat of some sort of natural disaster, to bring an end to that conversation.

And I kid you not: that is what it came to. I was working on my laptop while my friend was working on hers at the same table, and our chihuahua dogs were off playing together, dressed in their chihuahua dog clothing, when the tropical storm that had just been upgraded to hurricane status rolled into town with a furry, and the windows and everything started to really shake like crazy with the intense wind gust blasting against them. With all the commotion, our little pets in their dog clothes for chihuahuas started to FREAK out a bit and were coming up to us and looking at us for direction, with that “what should I do?”-look.

So, of course, being the chihuahua puppy clothes freaks that we are, we broke out their chihuahua dog thunder jackets and put them on them. I’m not sure if these chihuahua clothes actually have any magical powers anything strange like that or if it’s just some kind of placebo effect it has on our chihuahuas’ mind, but these outfits really do help our little dogs to stay more calm when the weather turns downright hostile outside. And so for them, their chihuahua doggie clothes inspired play date could continue, and they went back off into the living room to roughhouse and play and wrestle and rip around in their chihuahua clothing, having their chihuahua fun.

Hello again! It’s Namaste the chihuahua! Mikey has stepped out for a break from work and I’m going to pounce on this opportunity to tell about the chihuahua dress selection at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop right now! My owner Mikey has bought me a lot of different chihuahua dresses over the past year, and probably my two favorites have been my little chihuahua ball gown and my chihuahua skirt. These are simple little chihuahua clothing dresses that make me feel like a little cute cupcake who’s about to dine with a queen and sip tea over croissants in a royal palace! Oh, I get so excited just thinking about it! WOOooo!

Talking with my chihuahua friends here in town, we concur that small dog dresses like these are so fantastic and make us feel so good when our owners take care of us and look after us and care enough about us to dress us in one of these beautiful chihuahua dress outfits! There are formal chihuahua clothes like these that the lucky chihuahua dogs of the rich and famous get to wear on a regular basis, but most of us little doggies in our little “Dog Land” don’t have the privilege of donning these special dresses for chiwawa pups, and so when we do get to wear them, it’s truly a special occasion for us!

Mikey is always telling me how dresses for chihuahuas these days often come designed with a little harness loop built into the back of the outfit, so that owners can simply grab their chihuahua lead and clip it on to the back of the dress and away we go on our walk with you! The innovations in little dog dress fashion design never ceases to amaze me! I used to watch the little toy doggie walking the catwalk (or is it the dogwalk?) ont the fashion chihuahua dress shows, where the chi owners walk with their gorgeously dressed little dogs down the runway and the chihuahuas are all dressed up in expensive chihuahua accessories like diamond necklaces for little dogs and the like, and I would feel so jealous that I never had the opportunity to do the same!

I’ve been seeing a lot of teacup chihuahuas dressed up in teacup chihuahua clothes lately. The seaside town I live in is already abundant with dog owners who love chihuahuas, but it seems that nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd, and now more chihuahua owners are moving in. The small dog clothes at the Chihuahua Shop are perfect for these little buggers, as we carry an extra super small size for these tiny teacup chihauhua dogs who have owners who need to dress them up in their adorable chihuahua clothes on a daily basis!

Take this little teacup chihuahua for example:

Now, he’s pretty cute on his own, but even with some cheap teacup chihuahua clothes, he would look WAY cuter! Throw in some little dog accessories, maybe a few chihuahua dog dresses, and then a cute chihuahua costume that makes him look like a little lady bug or something wildly irresistible like that and I don’t think anyone with a camera who likes little dogs would be able to unglue their camera lens from your dog and their finger from the shutter button! Seriously, you would have a chihuahua fashion cuteness overload problem on your hands!

Just on a boat ride the other day to this little rock island where there’s some good scuba diving around where I live, there was this guy in the boat with a teacup chihuahua that was wearing this floral dog dress set that was almost too much. It was part Hawaiian shit, part ball down, and this little long haired teacup chihuahua looked so comfortable and at-ease and relaxed in her little dress set, as the boat rocked up and down over the crashing waves! It was surreal!

Then, when we got to this rock island, there was another person I’ve seen shopping at the Chihuahua Shop who had her teacup out with her, wearing this designer pink and white dress set that looked perfect for the part of the doting little pet, following her master back and forth on the little island of rocks. She was too cute!

Chihuahua clothing like this, when it’s worn by a micro teacup chihuahua, is almost dangerous because of how fragile these dogs can be and how much attention they attract from strangers. Especially kids here in Mexico, in a culture where dogs aren’t normally regarded in the same manner that we do in the US or in Europe or Thailand or the other parts of the planet that have a more humane mindset when it comes to dogs (of which there are many–I know–but I can only list so many ) the kids like to just grab whatever passes in front of them, and if they’ve seen their dad kick the dog at home one too many times, they’ll often try to do the same. It’s really not a good place to be a dog, down here in this country, unless they’re living with the right owner and taken care of!

Anyway, dressing your teacup chiwawa up in dog clothes, even when you’re in Mexico, isn’t usually a problem. And if you think it will be, you can always select one of the beautiful designer teacup chihuahua carriers the Chihuahua Store carriers, to help you transport your chiwawa around with you from hostile environment to hostile place!

Of course, if you really want to take that chihuahua fashion diva effect your little teacup dog will have when wearing her clothes and take it up a notch, you can adorn her with teacup chihuahua accessories and use a little teacup chihuahua harness to parade her around town to show her off to all the other animal lovers wherever you live!

On the more practical side, most teacup owners I know own at least a few teacup chihuahua sweaters for their little pup. These tiny dogs tend to get cold very easily and can often use that extra layer of “fur” to help them stay warm when it cools off for whatever reason. I had the chance to meet with an old friend from Morocco last week who designs pet clothing for dogs! He has seven small dogs of his own back at home and he’s over here in Mexico to get some ideas for an upcoming line of chihuahua clothes he plans to release before the holiday season. I showed him the dog clothes we carry at the Chihuahua Shop and he got very excited about the whole thing.

Apparently, my Moroccan dog outfits designer is looking for a store to distribute he new chihuahua outfits line to when they’re finished and it’s time to put them on the backs of the little chihuahuas around the world. And he would like to bring his future line of small designer dog coats and chihuahua dresses to our Chihuahua Clothes Store!

And this makes me very excited because if I know anything about my friend, it’s that he’s a stickler for quality and he will not compromise anything for it. I’ve seen some of the small dog sweaters and pet jackets for chihuahuas and other little doggies he has made before, and they were stunning! He dressed his own little chihuahua pack at home and then left the house with his doggies following him, as a walking advertisement for his line, and it was like watching art in motion… on different sets of four tiny legs. You have to admit: it’s hard to beat a chihuahua or a yorkie or another type of small dog when it comes to finding an attractive billboard to get your message out there!

My Moroccan friend tells me he’s interested in designing some new dog raincoats for chihuahuas living in the rainy season with their owners, and he’s certainly in the right place to do his research. Right now in this zany chihuahua town, it rains every day like a monsoon!

I’ve been a chihuahua owner and a follower of the different dog fashions for a while now. At the Chihuahua Store, we stock designer chihuahua clothes of many different types, and while I thought I knew my chihuahua fashion trends, my friend from Paris puts me to shame in this department.

She grew up in France and spent part of her life living in London, living the dog fashion UK scene for a while, and having been to many of the European dog fashion show events in the early 2000s, she sure knows her chihuahua clothing!

Walking through her home is a little bit like walking through a chihuahua fashion wonderland, with little dogs of different breeds coming greet you in every room, in their cute little doggie fashions and their little bling chihuahua accessories. My Parisian friend has a particular focus with her small dogs and it’s to make them each into a high fashion dog that has his/her own unique character.

“The trick,” she says, “is to know your dog intimately. From there, it’s only a matter of finding the right fashion for the dog.” It sounds simple, but this girl lives and breathes fashion for chihuahuas and her other toy breed dogs, and she really knows how to make it look easy.

She tells me her favorite dog fashion accessories from the Chihuahua Shop are the customizable fashion dog collars, with the Diamante crystal lettering; and the fashion dog carriers we have, that look like designer hand bags but that are actually designer dog carriers for your fashionably late chihuahua. She pairs these two to create the double effect of a fashionable dog owner walking the street, and a to-die-for fashionable dog that emerges from the bag when she sets it down and it’s time for her chihuahua to walk!

I’ve asked my friend if she’d ever consider organizing a dog fashion show to raise money for the local rescue group here in Sayulita, because she knows her pet fashion so well, and she said she would love to, so I’m super stoked about it! Not only am I going to be treated to a chihuahua dog fashion spectacle, some money will be raised to help the local chihuahua rescue and dog shelter her in the Riviera Nayarit. So fingers are crossed for that!

I’ve been getting excited, watching the new dog accessories come in to the Chihuahua Clothes Store lately! I always get a little bit of a high whenever we get new chihuahua product, and it was no exception this week with the new dog apparel. I’ve been watching some of my favorite other stores online like GW Little bring in new dog beds and dog backpacks and dog toys this week, but I’ve been focusing on dog clothes for chihuahuas and other small dogs, and I’m really liking what I see at the Chihuahua Shop with the stylish dog clothing on the shelves right now.

Chihuahua clothes have been a passion of mine since I last moved to a new country, met someone, and became the joint owner of two chihuahuas. The clothes are fun, they’re cute, they help my dogs out by keeping them warm. But it’s fun when you get to take your dog’s appearance to the next level with dog accessories like jewelry and collar charms. It can really be a lot of fun!

And then, when you top off the whole small dog experience with custom luxury dog bowls for the house and doggy leashes and dog harnesses for when you walk your little chihuahua each day, it immerses you and your little dog even more in the world of chihuahua fashion, and it can be a blast. I love going into that world of the luxury pet owner (even without spending a fortune on doggy accessories–just with a few choice items I like) and sharing that whole fantasy experience with my dogs. I like walking through the house, looking through the glass door and seeing my chihuahuas’ little dog houses, and I like carrying them in their little dog carriers when I can’t take them with me on a leash when I’m moving through buildings, downtown during the day. Sometimes it’s one of those days when I am going to take my chihuahuas in their chihuahua clothes and wearing their dog accessories with me, everywhere I go, and I need these things. Sometimes it’s just one of those days.
