The pink fur trimmed tartan coat (on the left, above) in particular has been getting a lot of attention, lately. Some of these new chihuahua coats are thicker and are for cold weather in the winter months. I’ve been looking at a lot of new dog coats for winter lately for my chihuahuas. We recently packed up everything and moved up to Canada, and on most days, it’s really starting to cool off! So I’ve been having to bundle the little chihuahuas up in their warmer chihuahua coats for winter, and they seem a lot more comfortable. Winter dog coats are always fun to play around with on chihuahuas because there are so many great designer chihuahua coats that are super fresh and fashionable in addition to being practical and warm for these little chihuahuas, they’re great! I’ve been looking at different fleece dog jackets to bring to the Chihuahua Shop for the upcoming cool months we have ahead. Right now, we have the best fleece-lined dog hoodies and sweatshirts (pictured left) that I’ve ever seen for chihuahuas, small dogs, and even bigger dogs, that you can even customize with a message of your own. I also stock some of the most fashionable fleece-lined dog parkas I have yet to come across. But then again, I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest chihuahua clothes and dog coats to bring to the Shop, and I make my own two chihuahuas wear their little chihuahua fleece dog jackets, so that’s not exactly a surprise!

My dad, of all people, recently bought these fleece dog jackets for his two bigger dogs, a pit bull mix and a golden retriever. They’re those equafleece for dogs jackets, and they look pretty cool. One of them is this neon yellow dog jumper and the other is this bright pink! I told him to buy a chihuahua dog fleece just like it for the Chihuahua Shop’s model, Namaste, so she can stay warm the next time she visits Canada when papa is visiting friends overseas in the UK and elsewhere in Europe!

Fashionable Fleece Dog Jackets?

But I’ve been looking at the fleece dog jackets and the designer fleece dog coats at the other shops online and there’s nothing new that I haven’t seen that’s really inspiring me right now. Not that small dog coats for winter, or even for bigger dogs for that matter, are that exciting: usually even the sweaters for small dogs have more fashion style and flair than the dog fleeces, but I was hoping to find at least one new fleece dog jacket that I thought was kinda cool and funky.

Outside of the fleece dog jackets we carry at the Chihuahua Shop, I’ve only seen one fido fleece dog coat that my friend owns that I really, really like. It has this creative, artistic fleece dog coat pattern on it that she actually knit herself into the fleece fabric of her chihuahua’s coat, and so I can’t exactly replicate it and start selling it for you at the store, so for now, the chihuahua clothes and the chihuahua fleece coats at the Shop are among the best fleece dog jackets and clothes you can find anywhere for chihuahuas, other little dogs, and depending on the model of the fleece: sometimes even for bigger dogs, too.

If you live in a rather wet part of the planet during the summer or the rainy season where you live, raincoats for dogs are probably not optional if you like to walk your chihuahua dogs and give them that exercise they love. I know that down here in Sayulita, in this rain forest, it pours cats and chihuahuas every day in the summer time, and my little dogs freeze when they get wet. So I have my chihuahuas wear these heavy-duty chihuahua rain coat outfits that we brought to the Chihuahua Shop recently, and they’ve been working very well.

These waterproof vinyl rain jackets keep my chihuahuas dry as a bone, which keeps them comfortable on their walks, which lets them enjoy the walk, which lets me enjoy the walk!

But if I thought I knew anything about raincoats for dogs, I really don’t in comparison to neighbor here in town. He has three of his own chihuahuas and two that he’s fostering right now, and he has more small dog raincoat jackets for his chiwawa pack than you can shake a bloody stick at! Apparently, he’s rather fond of the fashion appeal of chihuahua raincoats, and he just can’t wait for it to rain again so he can get out of his office and out into the wet streets to show off his fashionably dry chihuahuas in their little custom raincoats for dogs.

This neighbor of mine, he’s a Brit, which partially (ok–who am I kidding?–almost FULLY) explains why he’s in love with chihuahua clothes and fashion that keeps him and his doggies dry! And in his collection chihuahua raincoats, I’ve seen everything from the classic yellow rain poncho to the most elaborate, ornate designer small dog raincoat outfits for little dogs that I’ve ever seen!

For some incredibly frustrating reason, he will not tell me where he buys these fashionable raincoats for his chihuahua dogs. I’ve been looking for a good raincoat for dogs from the shelter here, like the chihuahua rescues that come in, so I can photograph them here during rainy season in some hip, funky, cool-looking fashion that makes them stand out and look adorable, so the people up north check out their pictures on Pet Finder, fall in love instantly with this adorable little yellow raincoat doggie, and have to apply to adopt that dog right then and there!

At the local pet stores, they have an ok selection of large dog raincoat costumes, but their selection of raincoats for little dogs like chihuahuas and poodles and shih tzus leaves much to be desired. Apparently, down here, if you have a small dog, you don’t walk him in the rain, which is ridiculous!

I always get excited when a small dog owner strikes up a conversation with me about designer dog coats because not only do we have some killer ones at the Chihuahua Clothes Shop, I had the chance to take stroll through what some would consider the American capital of smaller dogs: New York City. Believe it or not, there are a staggering number of little dogs in that city, and I was able to spend some time there with my chihuahua and two other small dogs I was fostering at the time, this past winter and soak up the sight of all the little dogs walking by in their custom dog coats and their fashionable personalized dog coats from the boutique dog stores in Manhattan. And holy cow, what an eye-opener it was!

I have new seen so many leather dog coats in my life. Central Park was like the luxury dog coats mecca, with mini schnauzers and french bulldogs sporting the latest in pet fashion, and what seemed like armies of chihuahuas and yorkies I passed by that wore designer coats for dogs. I thought L.A. was a hotbed of little dog apparel, but New York City put the city of angels to shame, at least on this trip!

I witnessed some of the most elaborate winter coats for dogs I’ve ever seen. And some of the custom whippet dog coats I saw were absolutely gorgeous in their design and their build quality. I also got to see a whole lot of pink dog coats for a team of Maltese dogs in training outside of a pet training facility in lower Manhattan, and, of course, when you visit one of those, you are going to see a pile of small doggie coats on the back of nearly every smaller dog pulling up in passenger’s seat of his owners car in the winter time, being dropped off for his day’s dog training class. It was almost unbelievable, the sheer volume of dogs there were that were outfitted in the latest designer dog fashion. This is a good city to be a dog!

I have a real soft spot in my heart for little dogs, and so I’m happy to stock some of the best small dog coats I’ve ever seen here at the Chihuahua Shop. They come in sizes for nearly every breed in dog, despite the store’s name, and like I said, they really are some of the best dog coats I’ve ever seen.

If you’re really into the designer fashion dog coats from the super upscale brands like Gucci, Prada, Versace, etc… that’s a little beyond the price range I focus on for the store, but you can check them out over at GW Little if that’s what you’re looking for, for your little dog. They have some gorgeous designer dog jackets and designer dog coats and I highly recommend them if you’re looking for quality designer dog coats, so check them out. I find that for most small dog owners, fleece dog coats aren’t really an option. The smaller breeds of dogs cool off much faster and more easily than the bigger breeds of dogs, and so we pick up little fleece doggie coats and sweaters for our chihuahuas and our yorkies, our Maltese and our shih tzu. In particular, I’ve found that fleece coats for dogs are particularly effective at keeping little dogs warm. I used to hike around in the mountains of Canada with Namaste and few other chihuahuas I was fostering at the time. This would have normally been impossible: it would have been way too cold for the chihuahuas to be able to handle. But wearing their little chihuahua dog fleeces, they stayed toasty warm with that extra layer of fur to protect them from the crisp air and insulate them a bit and lock in their body heat. Their little fido fleece coats worked great for them!

Initially, I actually bought their fleece dog jacket coats at a local pet store. This was long before I knew anything about the elaborate, extensive collection of boutique small dog clothing stores online that we have today, but there was a decent selection of fleeces for little dogs at the big pet stores where I was at the time. Actually, it was kind of nice to be able to take my dogs in with me, into the store, and try the clothes out right there before I purchased them. If there’s one thing I don’t like about shopping online, it’s that you can’t really do that.

Browsing the isles of the local dog store, there were all these fleece dog jacket pattern coats with their cute, clever little messages on the back and their fashionable cuts and designs. Typically, when I shop for chihuahua coats at the local brick and mortar stores, the selection is rather limited, but when it comes fleece dog sweater and fleece dog vest outfits for little dogs, there’s a quite a bit of variety–more than any other type of dog clothing you’ll find at the bigger, mainstream dog and pet stores in the big cities. So you can find some quality warm dog clothing at these stores, which is nice for a change.

That said, I still very much favor the online pet shopping experience today when I’m looking for my small dog clothing. Fleece jackets for dogs and fleece jumpers, for when you want to exercise with your dog and you want to run with him outdoors when it’s cool out or even downright cold, really are a must when you have smaller dogs like chihuahuas or yorkies, and there are some very good stores online today like the Chihuahua Shop that sell quality pet fleece outfits at reasonable prices. And the selection in these online little dog clothing stores far exceeds that of the local shops where you live; I can almost guarantee it.

If you can find 10 different brands of a certain type of polar fleece dog coat for you chihuahua, you’re almost certain to be able to find 100 brands of it online. On the internet, you have the advantage of being able to shop the toy dog coat boutiques that exist all around the world, and so your selection expands massively. This is why today, whenever I have a friend from back up in Canada or over in the UK asking me for advice on where they can find a dog fleece jacket for their little Maltese pup or their shivering chihuahuas, I tell them to browse the small pet clothing stores online, first, to find what they’re looking for to help their small dogs.

Like I said, you can find quality warm dog coats at the local pet stores, but the selection is limited compared to what you’ll find at the online dog clothes stores selection, with their massive wardrobe collections of small dog coats for the winter time, autumn, and other cool times and situations you’ll find yourself in as you travel along the strange, winding path of life with your little dogs! So if you’re you’re wondering how to find quality fleece dog coats for small dogs, start at the Chihuahua Shop, there, and you’ll be starting at the top in terms of quality and value, and you’ll save yourself a lot of time. As the proud owner of two awesome chihuahuas, I am definitely a fan of the doggie coat. I didn’t realize this when I first came to be a chihuahua owner, but these little buggers cool off rather easily and can spend a lot of their time shaking like mad if you don’t wrap them up in clothes for chihuahaus of some kind. So my default, go-to outfit for Namaste and her foster brother Custy right now are their warm doggie coats: I dress them up before we go to bed, and this way they stay warm and comfortable during the night.

Along with this, I watch Cesar Millan’s program regularly and I take his advice on treating your little dog like any other dog and taking him for a good walk every day. Well right now, I’m living in a part of the planet where the floodgates to the heavens open up frequently and it pours like I have never seen before, and so I’ve also recently become fond of the rainwear dog coat for my chihuahuas, that help them stay dry for the most part on their walks with me in the rain! My little dogs start shaking almost immediately upon getting even just a few drops of water on their fur coats, so it’s important to me to keep them dry so they can actually enjoy their walks and not feel like they’re on a torture trek!

Aside from these doggie coats, I’ve pretty much tried them all. Before living here in Mexico, we were up in Canada for the winter, and so we had the entire doggy wardrobe going on. Each of my little dogs had a dog sweater and they had the dog bomber jackets and fleece doggie coats. I even had a few velvet dog coats and suede doggie jackets for my precious Namaste, because I know how much she loves her little doggie fashion! I’m also huge fan of those cool little leather doggie jackets that make your dog look like a little canine fashion diva version of Marlon Brando in Streetcar Named Desire, and I’m also a big fan of the plaid dog jackets you can find that have those funky, classic chihuahua clothes patterns on them!

Of course, when we were indoors, the dogs had to be dressed up to the K-9s in their doggie couture, so I had them dolled up in their dog vests and, when travelling, I’d have the chiwawas sporting their little black faux mink coat! Canada for them really was like one big photo opp/fashion-fest, for these chihuahua dogs!

Aside from the above jackets and outfits, I also bought my chihuahuas a quilted doggie coat to keep them warm, and there were a few other chihuahua coats I just can’t remember–there were so many!

But today, it’s definitely the doggie rain coats that are saving the day. The Dog Whisperer says we should walk, and I agree, and so we do, and if it weren’t for the dog rain coat, my chihuahuas would be completely freezing their little buts off, so it would be hard for me to part with those right now!
